Nanoscale Protein Analysis
The Collaborative Protein Technologies Resource (CPTR) has extensive experience in the characterization of proteins for post-translational modifications and can assist PI’s with the Nanopro isoelectric focusing immunoassays which can profile in 6-24 ng of total cell lysate protein the percent phosphorylation status of a given protein using an antibody specific to the unmodified protein.
Mass Spectrometry for Proteins
The Protein Characterization Lab (PCL in Frederick) and the Collaborative Protein Technology Resources (CPTR in Bethesda) are equipped with the latest in mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation for proteomic and metabolomic analysis. Areas of expertise include protein complex characterization, global and target protein quantitation, and identification of post-translational modifications. The Center also provides educational and training opportunities for scientists on the use, interpretation, and applications of MS technologies.
Protein Complex Characterization
The Cancer Research Technology Program (formerly the Advanced Technology Program) at NCI-Frederick has extensive expertise in protein expression, isolation, and characterization. For example, the Protein Characterization Laboratory (PCL) is fully equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and other protein detection instrumentation. The Protein Expression Laboratory (PEL) has extensive cloning, expression optimization, and protein purification services.
Protein Expression and Production
The Protein Expression Laboratory develops, improves, and delivers protein-centric services. Our goal is to help client investigators achieve their research goals with the lowest possible cost in the shortest time. All PEL services are available individually as well as part of larger projects. The PEL has constructed hundreds of protein expression plasmids as well as clones that influence and report protein expression (shRNA, microRNA, reporter plasmids).
Molecular Targets/Biomarker Analysis
The Molecular Targets Core (MTC) provides comprehensive biomarker analyses that are integral and critical parts of oncology clinical trials. The Core has exceptional capabilities in highly sensitive, very specific, and extremely accurate measurements of investigational biomarkers with most of them cannot be measured or detected in a regular clinical diagnostic lab.
