Imaging

Center for Molecular Microscopy

The goal of the Center for Molecular Microscopy (CMM) is to apply emerging technologies for 3D electron microscopy to problems of fundamental interest in cancer and HIV/AIDS biology. The CMM collaboratory is focused on using new, state-of-the-art technologies in 3D electron microscopy for high impact biological research. We work with colleagues in CCR and elsewhere to apply these technologies to key biological problems that require high resolution, 3D imaging by electron microscopy.

Electron Microscopy

The EML offers investigators access to unique expertise and EM technologies that allow our partners to explore new avenues of research in order to enhance the knowledge of biological systems. To assist our customers, we provide complete specimen preparation service which includes shipment of fixative, processing, embedding, sectioning, and imaging of samples. If desired, investigators can also discuss the design of custom protocols tailored to their specific needs.

Optical Microscopy

The managers of the Microscopy cores are working together to offer CCR investigators the latest in optical microscopy approaches. The OSTR has worked with these groups to create a website to provide basic information about the imaging resources available to the CCR community.

High Content Imaging

The NCI High-Throughput Imaging Facility (HiTIF) provides infrastructure and expertise to NCI intramural scientists for automated microscopy assay development, the discovery of small molecule compounds, and characterization of cellular pathways using RNAi-based screens. In addition to screening capabilities, the facility develops high-throughput microscopy analytical methods that provide unique insights into the mechanisms underlying rare cellular events within adherent monolayer cell populations.
