Cellular Metabolite Analysis
The XF Extracellular Flux Analyzer from Seahorse Bioscience is a fully-integrated instrument that simultaneously measures the two major energy yielding pathways – aerobic respiration and glycolysis – in a convenient, microplate format. The system is ideal for measuring metabolic changes in cells in response to ligand stimulation or drug treatment. The OSTR has facilitated the purchase and establishment of metabolite analysis available to investigators on the Frederick campus (System is now located in Building 560 and is overseen by Dan McVicar).
The Protein Characterization Laboratory at the ATRF is available to establish assays to measure specific metabolites in biological samples. These services can be used to validate metabolites identified through metabolomics profiling (e.g., screens conducted by Metabolon, Inc.).
Mass Spectrometry-based Metabolic Screening
HMT’s platform is specifically designed for the quantitative detection of small polar metabolites from a wide range of sample types including blood (whole, plasma, serum, platelets, WBC’s), urine, CSF, cells, and tissues. Our platform is the only quantitative option available.
