The Mutant Mouse Resource and Research Center (MMRRC) (RRID:SCR_002953) is a national network of four mouse archiving and distribution repositories and an Informatics, Coordination and Service Center (ICSC) that serve together as a public repository of spontaneous and induced mutant mouse models and cell lines for biomedical research. The MMRRC accepts scientifically valuable, genetically altered mouse strains, embryonic stem (ES) cell lines, and hybridomas created by research scientists. The MMRRC creates archives of those mice, ES cells, and hybridomas and lists their availability in an online searchable catalog for distribution to research scientists upon request. There are no costs (other than the cost of shipping) for researchers submitting mice to the MMRRC, and only modest fees are charged to request mice, ES cells, or mouse tissues from the MMRRC. The MMRRC implements specific quality control and assurance testing protocols to ensure the identity, viability, genetics, and health of mutant mice. In addition, the MMRRC applies broad-based strategies to optimize rigor, reproducibility, and translatability of biomedical research using mouse models.
The MMRRC has an archive of ~60,000 mutant alleles in live mice, frozen germplasm, and ES cells for biomedical research. The MMRRC can supply live mice from production breeding colonies, recovery from the cryopreserved archive, or via microinjection of ES cells. In addition, the MMRRC can provide additional services related to handling, management, creation, and analysis of mutant mice as models of human disease, including assisted reproductive techniques, cryobiology, genetic analysis, phenotyping and infectious disease diagnostics
